Philanthropy
Alpha Phi is one of the first women's fraternities to establish its own foundation. The Alpha Phi Foundation was established in 1956 and empowers women to achieve scholastic excellence, be leaders, and aids in the fight against the number one killer of women - heart disease. We raise award funds for programs that encourage academic excellence, advance leadership development, and improve women's heart health.
The Alpha Phi foundation supports sisters at every stage of life. Alpha Phi is a sisterhood that lasts forever.
In our own chapter we hold many events and service opportunities to raise money for the Alpha Phi foundation. It is a cause that is near and dear to all of us and we are so happy to be able to have the opportunity to help. Not only do we fundraise and support the cause on a chapter level, but we have members who work in cardiac research labs and develop new technologies around the heart.
Red Dress Brunch
Red Dress Brunch is a philanthropy fundraiser we hold annually during Parent’s Weekend. It gives our members and their families a chance to come together to learn about the issue of women’s heart disease and donate to our cause, the Alpha Phi Foundation. The Alpha Phi Foundation partners with the American Heart Association to fund groundbreaking cardiovascular research and education. It’s so meaningful to work with our families to truly make a difference.
At Red Dress brunch, initiated members wear the red dress. The Red Dress is a national symbol for women’s heart disease awareness. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America, and the red dress is meant to inspire women around the country to prioritize their heart health. By wearing the red dress, we show our support for a cause that near and dear to all of us.
King of Hearts
King of Hearts is the most exciting event of the year and attracts hundreds of students across campus! It is our biggest philanthropy event and last year we were able to raise more than $18,000. During this entertaining event, male representatives from student organizations compete in a talent show to win the title “King of Hearts.” All of the proceeds from the event go towards the Alpha Phi Foundation and cardiovascular research. We are so proud to be able to share our philanthropy with the rest of campus and raise money for a great cause!
Other Events
Our other philanthropy events throughout the year include Healthy Heart Week and Mac and Phis. These events involve charity workout classes and proceeds nights at local businesses that aim to spread awareness of women’s heart disease.
Many of the women in our chapter have been affected by heart disease firsthand. We support our sisters who have such personal connections to our cause by continuing to spread awareness of this issue and donating to cardiovascular research. We lead by example by encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.
